To foster closer communication, the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a warm and informal discussion between the new Head of the Doctoral Program and Doctoral students. ​The event took place on Monday (26/1/2026) in Room 407 of the UGM Graduate School Building. Held from 10:00 to 11:30 WIB, the meeting was attended directly by the new Head of the Program, Dr. Sri Margana, M.Hum., M.Phil., along with PSPSR doctoral students.​

Unlike typical formal meetings, this session was conducted in a warm and inclusive atmosphere. The main agenda included an introduction and a discussion on the progress of the students’ ongoing dissertation research. Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has once again produced its finest graduates through the Postgraduate Graduation Ceremony for Period II of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, held solemnly on Wednesday (Jan 21). Taking place at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP), this graduation procession marks a new chapter for graduates to contribute to the nation.

​Following the sacred ceremony at the university level, the festivities continued at the UGM School of Postgraduate Studies (SPs) building. Located in the 5th Floor Auditorium, SPs UGM held a special farewell event for the graduates. This event served as a form of appreciation for the dedication of students who completed their advanced studies amidst challenging academic dynamics. The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada held a handover ceremony for the Heads of Study Programs on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Auditorium of the UGM Graduate School Building. The event was attended by all Heads of Study Programs within the Graduate School, reflecting a collective commitment to maintaining leadership continuity and strengthening academic governance.

​During the procession, the positions for the 2026–2031 period were officially handed over as follows:

• ​Doctoral Program (S3) in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR): The position was officially transferred from Dr. Budi Irawanto, S.IP., M.A. to Dr. Sri Margana, M.Hum., M.Phil.
• ​Master’s Program (S2) in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR): The position is now held by Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum.

​The ceremony was followed by an internal socialization session for the PSPSR Study Programs from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM WIB in Room 305. Magelang, November 15, 2025 – The 2025 Nusantara Arts Innovation Program (PISN) team from the Study Program of Performing Arts and Fine Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully revived the Janengan traditional art form, which had been forgotten for 30 years in Teneran Hamlet, Pucungsari Village, Magelang Regency. The 2025 program is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

The Janengan art form, last performed in 1989, resonated once again through collaboration among academics, artists, and local communities at the Kolaborasa II/2025 Festival held on Saturday afternoon, November 15, 2025. The performance involved 15 male dancers from Sanggar Seni Turonggo Sekar Gadung with a combination of 14 percussion instruments and six vocalists, presenting Islamic devotional songs (selawatan) with Islamic preaching verses blended with contemporary aesthetics. read more

The Doctoral Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) held a Dissertation Proposal Coaching Clinic on Saturday–Sunday, 13–14 December 2025. The program, held at The Jayakarta Yogyakarta Hotel, was attended by 15 PSPSR doctoral students who have not yet undertaken the comprehensive examination for their dissertation proposals. This coaching clinic served as an intensive mentoring forum well-structured, convincing, and focused dissertation research proposals.

The Head of the PSPSR Doctoral Program, Budi Irawanto, stated that this was the first time such an activity had been organized and expressed hope that it would become a regular program in the coming years. According to him, the coaching clinic is highly beneficial in helping students understand that a dissertation proposal is not merely a matter of technical writing skills. “The word proposal comes from to propose, which means to apply. A strong and convincing research proposal is not simply a reflection of writing proficiency, but rather of clear lines of thought, solid arguments, and the ability to persuade the proposal’s readers,” he explained. He also emphasized the importance of both substantive and managerial dimensions in proposal writing, including the preparation of a research timeline as a means of realistically managing energy and research focus. read more

In an effort to strengthen academic cooperation and expand international networks, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) conducted an academic visit to Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Monday, 1 December 2025, at 10:00 a.m. (WIB). The visit took place at the Universitas Gadjah Mada campus and was attended by a UiTM delegation led by the Dean, Associate Professor Dr. Wan Aida Wan Yahaya, accompanied by faculty member Dr. Norman.

The visit aimed to explore strategic collaboration opportunities between the two institutions, particularly in the development of cross-border academic programs that support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 (Quality Education) through inclusive and internationally oriented higher education, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthened global academic partnerships. read more

December 2025 – On December 13, 2025, four students from the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Master’s Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada participated in INCARTURE: International Conference on Arts and Culture 2025. Hosted by the Postgraduate Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts and Culture (ISBI) Bandung, the conference was held at Universitas Mandiri Bandung.

​The event carried the theme “Strengthening Creativity in the Digital Era: Art, Education, and Culture” and featured five keynote speakers: Prof. Endang Caturwati, S.ST., MS. (Indonesia), Prof. Arsenio Nicolas (Thailand), Prof. Dr. Een Herdiani, S.Sen., M.Hum. (Indonesia), Prof. Urip Sulistyo, Ph.D. (Indonesia), and Prof. Valentin Yakushik (Ukraine). read more

Yogyakarta, 27 November 2025 — A total of 21 students from the Graduate Program of Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) participated in a lecture on Art and Education delivered by Dr. Bayu Tejo Sampurno, M.A. The session aimed to broaden students’ understanding of the position of art within contemporary educational contexts and to examine the relationship between artistic practice, pedagogy, and sociocultural dynamics.

In his presentation, Bayu Tejo Sampurno emphasized the importance of understanding the current development of art and education, including how educators must cultivate engagement and relevance in their teaching approaches. Creativity-based and student-centered pedagogical strategies were highlighted as key components in effective arts education. read more

Bandung, 11 November 2025. Two students from the Graduate Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Chentrika Matrella Swasti and Moeti Ayudhia Shali, were selected as presenters at the Asian Cultural Echoes: International Conference of Bamboo Music held at ISBI Bandung on 11 November 2025. Of the 19 submitted papers, only 5 were selected for presentation in the main session of the conference, which carried the theme Preserving and Innovating Bamboo Music for Cultural Sustainability. read more
