In commemoration of World Dance Day, the Graduate Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Ullen Sentalu Museum, organized an event titled “Talk and Performance: R.M. Jodjana; Embodied Culture in Motion: Presence as Cultural Ambassadorship.”
The event took place on Wednesday 29 April 2026 at 09:00 AM WIB at the Ullen Sentalu Museum, Kaliurang. It was conducted in a hybrid format, integrating on-site attendance with virtual participation via Zoom to engage a wider audience.
The event commenced with opening remarks from Mr. Daniel Haryono, representing Ullen Sentalu Museum, followed by a speech from the Head of the Master’s Program in PSPSR UGM, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum. On this occasion, Dr. Paramitha emphasized that the collaboration serves as a vital momentum to analyze the figure of R.M. Jodjana through diverse perspectives. The proceedings were moderated by B. B. Angga Prasetyawan, a Master’s student at PSPSR UGM, who served as the Master of Ceremonies (MC).
The discussion session delved into R.M. Jodjana’s influential career in Europe. Dr. G. R. Lono Lastoro Simatupang, M.A., who attended as a discussant, provided profound insights into the essence of the maestro’s movements.
“Through Raden Mas Jodjana, we can see that the body can serve as data—an entity that can be studied by others for their respective purposes,” Dr. Lono remarked.
This collaborative initiative between PSPSR UGM and Ullen Sentalu Museum serves as a concrete step toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): This event serves as a form of non-formal education and academic enrichment. Through the Talk and Performance format, it disseminates knowledge regarding art history and cultural theory to both students and the general public.
- SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): The World Dance Day commemoration, which highlights R.M. Jodjana, acts as an effort to preserve intangible cultural heritage. Ullen Sentalu Museum’s role as the venue reinforces the function of museums as institutions that safeguard collective national memory, ensuring its relevance for future generations.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): This cross-sector collaboration demonstrates a synergy aimed at cultural preservation. Furthermore, the use of a hybrid format reflects the strategic use of technology to promote inclusivity and information accessibility, embodying the spirit of global partnership. (NA)
