Sleman, 10 September 2026 — Students of the Master’s Study Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR), Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), organized a Walking Tour entitled “Tracing Turi’s Past”. The activity was part of a series of Community Service Program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PKM) initiatives carried out by PSPSR UGM students under the overarching theme “Niti Bumi: Bodies That Spell, Land That Remembers, and Landscapes That Grow”.

The walking tour was conducted together with M. Yaser Arafat, lecturer and researcher, and Cuk Riomanda, an anthropologist. The activity also involved members of the Turi community from different generations, Komunitas Pecinta Nisan, and PSPSR UGM students. The encounter among local residents, researchers, communities, and students created a space for revisiting Turi’s history through collective memory and material traces that can still be found today. read more

The Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) Study Program, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a welcoming event for new students titled “Beyond the Gate.” The event took place in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere in Meeting Room A, UGM Graduate School Building, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

This event was specially organized to welcome and provide a deep understanding for new Master’s and Doctoral students of PSPSR UGM regarding the study program’s profile, academic vision and mission, as well as the curriculum and learning systems they will undertake. In this academic intake, PSPSR UGM officially welcomed 10 new Master’s students and 3 new Doctoral students. read more

Magelang, 15 August 2026 – The Doctoral Study Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah, held an intensive mentoring session for its doctoral students. This activity was one of several main things on the agenda during the Dissertation Boot Camp at the Puri Asri Hotel & Resort in Magelang. Everyone in the Dissertation Boot Camp took part in the intensive mentoring session that the program put together.

The intensive mentoring sessions successfully brought together doctoral students with their promotors and co-promotors. The event was a hybrid, so promotors at the venue could meet face-to-face with their students. Some of the promotors and co-promotors who were there were Dr. G. R. Lono Lastoro Simatupang, M.A., Dr. Sri Margana, M.Hum., M.Phil., Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum, and Dr. Oki Rahadianto Sutopo, M.Si. Meanwhile, supervisors who couldn’t make it in person did online meetings with their students on Zoom. Even so, the guidance sessions went pretty well. read more

The Doctoral Study Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a dissertation monitoring session for students at the Dissertation Boot Camp at the Puri Asri Hotel & Resort in Magelang. This session was one of several key activities included in the Dissertation Boot Camp program. The monitoring session happened before the students got some intensive guidance from their promotor and co-promotor the next day.

During this dissertation monitoring session, students talked about their progress, explaining which stages they’d already finished and when they plan to finish the rest. They also talked about the challenges they faced during the research and writing processes. Some participants said that students often have a hard time with the journal article stage because they have to publish in indexed international journals. This process can take a long time, from when they submit their article to when it’s finally published. But even with these challenges, the PSPSR UGM doctoral students are still super excited to finish their dissertations. Dr. Sri Margana, M.Hum., M.Phil., the Head of the Doctoral Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies, said “Writing the journal article is a task that should not be taken lightly, as there are submission deadlines that must be carefully considered.” read more

Magelang – The Doctoral Study Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada is holding a Dissertation Boot Camp. This boot camp is a regular event organized by the program to help doctoral students work on their dissertations more intensively. The event will be at the Puri Asri Magelang Hotel & Resort in Kemirirejo, Magelang Tengah District, Magelang City, Central Java in 2026. The program runs from Friday, August 14, 2026, to Sunday, August 16, 2026, and students from the 2020 through 2025 cohorts will be there. read more

Jakarta — Angga Prasetyawan, a master’s student in the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Program (PSPSR), Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, participated as one of the presenters at “LISAN XIII: International Seminar and Festival of Nusantara Oral Traditions 2026“, held from August 5–8, 2026, at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Central Jakarta.

At the forum, Angga presented a paper entitled “Merawat Iman, Budaya, dan Kemanusiaan: Tradisi Lisan dan Praktik Performatif dalam Pahargyan Ekaristi Prosesi Agung 2026 di Gereja Katolik Hati Kudus Tuhan Yesus Ganjuran, Yogyakarta”. The paper examined how oral traditions and performative practices are manifested within a Catholic religious celebration that closely interacts with Javanese culture, particularly through the use of language, prayers and hymns, gamelan music, traditional attire, processions, gestures, and various other performative elements within the Eucharistic celebration. read more

Febri Anugerah, a master’s student in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), was selected as Indonesia’s delegate for the Tropical Lab Singapore 2026 International Art Camp. Hosted by LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore from July 16 to 31, the program brought together more than 22 MA and PhD art students from countries including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, Serbia, and South Africa etc.

Now in its 20th year, Tropical Lab serves as a collaborative platform for emerging artists to expand their artistic practice through research, dialogue, and cross-cultural exchange. Centered around the theme Terra, the 2026 edition invited participants to reflect on the earth as an evolving material, ecological, and social space shaped by technological transformation and environmental challenges. read more

Yogyakarta, 26 July 2026 – The Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada teamed up with the Master’s Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies to host an “International Workshop on Gamelan and Traditional Dance” with participants from 17 countries. This was their last event before wrapping up the “Workshop Pengelolaan Sampah di Perkotaan” (Urban Waste Management Workshop) series. Only a few people showed up, but it was still a fun and enjoyable event.

The workshop activities kicked off with an opening and a quick intro of the activities by MC Namira Azzahra, S.S., M.A., and then continued with welcoming speech from the Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng., will be there, along with Agung Dian Kharisma, S.Pd.Si., M.Biotech., Ph.D. as a lecturer in biotechnology. Before the activities get started, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum., head of the Masters Study Program at PSPSR UGM, introduced the trainers who’ll be mentors for the gamelan and traditional dance workshop. read more
