The Graduate Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada has strengthened its collaborative network with cultural institutions through a “Talk and Performance” event titled “R.M. Jodjana; Embodied Culture in Motion: Presence as Cultural Ambassadorship.” The event was held in a hybrid format, centered at the Ullen Sentalu Museum on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Dr. Sri Margana, M.Hum., M.Phil., the Head of the Doctoral Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies at UGM, participated as a featured speaker. In his presentation, he provided an in-depth analysis of Raden Mas Jodjana’s life and career. The discussion covered the legendary dancer and artist’s biographical background and his pivotal role in bringing the essence of traditional arts to the international stage, particularly during his career in Europe.
The event drew significant enthusiasm from academics, art practitioners, and the general public, including those attending in person and those joining via the Zoom virtual platform. In addition to the theoretical discussion, the program featured performances representing the spirit of cultural motion championed by the maestro.
This collaboration marks a concrete step by the UGM Graduate School in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): Providing access to learning based on historical and cultural research for both students and the public.
- SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): Efforts to preserve cultural heritage through academic discourse and the historical documentation of national artists.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Building strong cooperation between higher education institutions and museums as cultural preservation agencies.
