The Graduate Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada held its inaugural discussion series, Forum 35 #1, titled “Practice-Based Research” on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Hosted in Room 407 on the 4th floor of the UGM Graduate School (SPs) Building, this event is part of the series celebrating the 35th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of PSPSR UGM.
The event was officially opened by the Head of the PSPSR Master’s Program, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum. This forum featured Dr. G. R. Lono Lastoro Simatupang, M.A. as the keynote speaker. During the session, Dr. Lono elaborated on the concepts of practice-based research and practice-led research, highlighting the fundamental differences between the two methodologies.
The Forum 35 series was open to the public with limited capacity and conducted in a hybrid format, combining in-person attendance at the SPs UGM Building with virtual participation via Zoom. High enthusiasm was evident throughout the event, particularly during the Q&A session. Participants, both on-site and virtual, engaged actively in critical discussions regarding practice-based research methodologies in the arts.
This initiative represents a concrete step by the UGM Graduate School in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): Providing high-quality education and an in-depth discussion space for students and the general public regarding contemporary research methods. (NA)
