To improve the quality of academic writing and critical thinking skills in building scientific arguments, as part of efforts to promote quality education (SDGs 4), Performing Arts and Arts Arts Studies Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada held the Scientific Writing Series #3 with the theme: Constructing Scientific Arguments on Monday, June 10, 2024. This series was presented by Dr. phil. Vissia Ita Yulianto, who emphasized the steps to construct scientific arguments. One key point highlighted was the interrelation between different elements within a scientific paper. In every scientific writing, there are always two main components: the controlling idea and the supporting idea. The controlling idea is the author’s general statement, while the supporting idea consists of thoughts or information that back up the general idea.
The third Scientific Writing Series was opened by the Head of the Master’s Program of PSPSR UGM, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum., who stated that this activity is crucial for students as it greatly supports their academic process, especially in completing the scientific writings that are a requirement during their studies. SDG 4: Quality Education
The Doctoral Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies at the Graduate School of UGM organized a Dissertation Boot Camp for doctoral students of PSPSR UGM from May 31 to June 2, 2024, at Oxalis Hotel Magelang. The Boot Camp featured four main activities: monitoring and evaluating student progress, international journal writing training, intensive guidance, and independent work. In his opening remarks, Dr. Budi Irawanto, S.I.P.,M.A., the Head of the Doctoral Program at PSPSR UGM, stated that writing a dissertation is a very solitary activity, often involving intense self-reflection. Therefore, as outlined in the event’s Terms of Reference, students need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to write their dissertations systematically, directed, and on time, enabling them to complete their dissertations more effectively and efficiently, inline with SDGs number 4 about Quality Education.
