Magelang – The Doctoral Study Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada is holding a Dissertation Boot Camp. This boot camp is a regular event organized by the program to help doctoral students work on their dissertations more intensively. The event will be at the Puri Asri Magelang Hotel & Resort in Kemirirejo, Magelang Tengah District, Magelang City, Central Java in 2026. The program runs from Friday, August 14, 2026, to Sunday, August 16, 2026, and students from the 2020 through 2025 cohorts will be there.

The event started at 15:00 WIB on the first day, and it was officially opened by the Head of the PSPSR UGM Master’s Program, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum., in the Amarta Meeting Room. The Head of the PSPSR UGM Doctoral Program, Dr. Sri Margana, M.Hum., M.Phil., was also there. Dr. Sri Margana said he hopes PSPSR UGM doctoral students will write their dissertations with more focus and structure. They’re getting more than a comfortable workspace; they also get to meet directly with their respective promoters and co-promoters for more intensive guidance. The idea to set up meetings between students and their promoters or co-promoters came from the belief that the current level of guidance wasn’t enough to make sure the dissertations were top-notch. Furthermore, Dr. Sri Margana urged the students to be more proactive in contacting their supervisors (promoters and co-promoters). “The research findings seminar stage can catalyze and accelerate dissertation progress, so there is no need for long delays in the process,” Dr. Sri Margana emphasized.

On the second day, the main event for the PSPSR UGM doctoral students was an intensive guidance session. But before they got to work, they did a morning exercise session of their choice. Some joined a morning aerobics session and outdoor team-building activities led by Hanafi Husni Mubaroq, while others went for basketball, a gym workout, or swimming. After the exercise, the participants went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. At 09:30 WIB, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah started the intensive guidance session in the Amarta Meeting Room. Once the session was officially opened, the students had guidance discussions with their promoters and co-promoters according to the schedule they’d agreed on.

On the third day, the event started at 09:00 WIB in the Amarta Meeting Room. Each student talked about how their dissertation was coming along. They’d been working on it for three days and two nights. At the end of the session, Dr. Sri Margana explained the structure and content of the research, including how to write the background, how to formulate the problem, and so on. Dr. Sri Margana said she was very happy with all the students’ dissertation progress, especially after the Dissertation Boot Camp. And don’t forget to thank everyone who helped make the Dissertation Boot Camp event a success.

The Dissertation Boot Camp organized by the Doctoral Study Program in Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies at the Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, contributes to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly regarding the following point:

  • SDG 4 (Quality Education): supports the smooth progress of doctoral students’ dissertation writing to ensure the continuity of more comprehensive art studies.
  • SDG 5 (Gender Equality): makes no gender-based distinctions in facilitating doctoral-level education; all students receive facilities tailored to their specific needs.
  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): collaborates with external parties to enhance the quality of the doctoral education experience. (IH)
