Two students from the Master’s Program in Performing and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada have achieved a remarkable accomplishment by presenting their research findings at the International Graduate Students and Scholars’ Conference in Indonesia (IGSSCI) 2025. This prestigious event, organized by the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada on November 4-5, 2025, carried the overarching theme Navigating The Future: Strengthening Resilience Through Glocal Collaboration Towards World Peace, emphasizing the importance of global-local collaboration in building resilience to face future challenges.
Dani Ardyawan, one of the PSPSR students who had the opportunity to present at this conference, delivered his research titled Macapat Mystification: Fear Narratives in Traditional Tones in Panel 7 under the scope of Cultural and Social Resilience in Global Challenges. Dani’s research explores how fear narratives are constructed through macapat songs, a form of Javanese literary tradition, demonstrating the relevance of traditional cultural heritage in understanding contemporary social dynamics. This study offers a unique perspective on how traditional arts can serve as a medium for understanding cultural and social resilience amid global challenges.
Meanwhile, Delfin Febriansyah presented his research entitled Traditional Prayer, Modern Problems: Indonesian Community Responses to Burnout within the scope of Integrating Glocal Perspective for a Resilient Future. Delfin’s research addresses the current issue of burnout phenomenon that is increasingly prevalent in modern society, and how Indonesian communities respond to this problem through traditional prayer approaches. This research provides important insights into how local wisdom can serve as an alternative solution in addressing modern-day problems.
The participation of both PSPSR students in IGSSCI 2025 aligns with the study program’s and Universitas Gadjah Mada’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. Through international forums such as this, students not only develop their academic capacities but also build global collaborative networks that are essential for creating a more sustainable and peaceful future. This achievement demonstrates that the quality of research conducted at PSPSR UGM can contribute to international academic discourse and provide nnovative solutions to global challenges through a rich local perspective.
