The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada held a solemn Graduation Ceremony for Period 1 of Academic Year 2025/2026. This festive event was enlivened by students from the Master’s Program in Performing and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR), Janur Pusparukmi and Rusnandi, who performed the Ronggeng Nyentrik Dance.
The involvement of both PSPSR students in this prestigious event demonstrates the study program’s commitment to integrating theory and practice in performing arts. The Ronggeng Nyentrik Dance presented is a form of traditional art preservation packaged with contemporary interpretation, reflecting the continuously evolving dynamics of Indonesian culture.
This performance aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4 on Quality Education, where performing arts serve as an effective learning medium in building character and cultural appreciation. Through arts education, students not only sharpen their academic abilities but also develop social and cultural sensitivity that is essential for sustainable development.
Furthermore, the preservation of traditional arts such as Ronggeng Dance also contributes to SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities. Efforts to maintain local cultural identity become an essential foundation in building an inclusive and sustainable society, while simultaneously strengthening national identity amid the currents of globalization.
The performance by Janur Pusparukmi and Rusnandi received high appreciation from the graduates and guests. This proves that PSPSR not only focuses on theoretical studies but also encourages students to actively engage in meaningful performing arts practice.
This activity serves as tangible evidence that art plays a strategic role in higher education and sustainable development, while demonstrating PSPSR’s excellence in producing competent, character-driven academics and art practitioners. (DF)
