Kolaborasa#2: Collaborative Efforts in the Utilization and Preservation of Kenteng Site

Kolaborasa#2 combines the words “collaboration” and “rasa,” reflecting the spirit of cooperation between the community and academia, grounded in local wisdom values. This program is part of community service aimed at empowering the community without expecting specific rewards. Community service is one of the primary missions of higher education institutions as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely education, research, and community service.

This community service initiative will be carried out in Kapanewon Prambanan, specifically in Kenteng Hamlet, which is home to the Kenteng Site, a culturally significant historical heritage. This site serves as a silent witness to history and a symbol of identity and pride for the local community. Therefore, the preservation and utilization of this site are crucial in maintaining and developing cultural values that can be globally competitive.

Preserving the Kenteng Site aims to  instil historical and cultural awareness in younger generations while introducing local wisdom that remains relevant in modern life. The program involves various stakeholders: the community as the cultural heirs, academics as providers of insights and research, and local authorities as facilitators of the activities.

A series of activities are designed to support the preservation efforts of the Kenteng Site, including:

  1. Clean-Up Action and Joint Prayers – as a form of respect for the site and cultural heritage.
  2. Historical Discussion and Collective Memory Forum – a discussion with village elders, academics, and local officials about the history and cultural significance of the site.
  3. Workshops Using Art Media – educational activities through painting, dance, and music to raise cultural awareness within the community.
  4. Art Performances – showcasing the community’s works as the culmination of activities to strengthen nationalism and revive the local folklore of Kenteng Hamlet.

This program will take place on August 4 and from August 16-18, 2024, supervised by Program Director Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M.Hum., and led by Laila Damayanti. The outcomes of this program will have a tangible impact on the community, including the documentation of the Kenteng Site as an academic reference and collective art works representing local cultural identity. This initiative also aims to introduce Indonesia’s cultural heritage globally, in line with the spirit of From Local Goes to Global.

With the synergy of the government, the community, academia, and other stakeholders, this program can serve as a concrete step in preserving and utilizing historical sites as part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage that is globally competitive.
