PSPSR UGM Masters Student Conference at INCARTURE: International Conference on Arts and Culture 2025

December 2025 – On December 13, 2025, four students from the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Master’s Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada participated in INCARTURE: International Conference on Arts and Culture 2025. Hosted by the Postgraduate Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts and Culture (ISBI) Bandung, the conference was held at Universitas Mandiri Bandung.

​The event carried the theme “Strengthening Creativity in the Digital Era: Art, Education, and Culture” and featured five keynote speakers: Prof. Endang Caturwati, S.ST., MS. (Indonesia), Prof. Arsenio Nicolas (Thailand), Prof. Dr. Een Herdiani, S.Sen., M.Hum. (Indonesia), Prof. Urip Sulistyo, Ph.D. (Indonesia), and Prof. Valentin Yakushik (Ukraine). read more

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Hosts the 2025 Leader’s Summit Pascasarjana: Advancing Academic Collaboration in Art and Design

Bandung, October 22, 2025 — The Leader’s Summit Pascasarjana, a strategic forum that brings together Heads and Coordinators of Graduate Programs in Art, Design, and Art Education from various universities across Indonesia, was once again successfully held. This forum serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration to strengthen the academic direction of art and design studies amidst the rapidly changing times.

Initiated in 2024, this year’s summit carried the theme “Strengthening Collaboration Among Graduate Programs in Art, Design, and Art Education in Indonesia,” and took place at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Bandung. The main focus of the forum is to enhance creativity, research capacity, and managerial strength of study programs to effectively respond to the challenges of research-based and innovative higher education. read more

Indo-Tekno Scenography Workshop 2025: An Opportunity for PSPSR Students to Learn and Explore

Delfin Febriansyah, a PSPSR student, achieved a remarkable accomplishment by being selected as a participant in the Indo-Tekno Scenography Workshop 2025. This intensive three-day workshop took place from September 25 to 27, 2025, at the UGM Creativity and Innovation Arena, featuring three prominent scenography experts from the University of Melbourne: Matt Scott, Martyn Coutts, and Anna Cordingley.

This innovative workshop explored the synthesis between lighting, digital media, projection, sets, and costumes in creating captivating scenographic worlds. This integrated approach serves as the key to developing the modern performing arts industry that combines technology with traditional aesthetics. read more

PSPSR UGM Doctoral Candidate Leads Cross-Disciplinary Research on Indonesian Sculptures in Dutch Museums

From August 4 to 29, 2025, Ashar Murdihastomo, a doctoral candidate in Performing and Visual Arts Studies at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), led a cross-disciplinary research team in the Netherlands. The team was awarded a highly competitive grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) through the Research into Collections with a Colonial Context program. Out of numerous international proposals, only eleven were selected, and Ashar’s team was among those chosen.

Over nearly a month, the team conducted research at the Wereldmuseum and the Rijksmuseum, focusing on Indonesian sculptures from the eighth to the fifteenth century. Using 2D and 3D scanning technologies, the team documented the sculptures with high precision. The project involved researchers from the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), covering archaeology, archaeometry, sustainable cultural studies, and artificial intelligence, as well as computational experts from the University of Twente. read more
