Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) Doctoral Program, in collaboration with the Department of History, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held an opening lecture featuring history expert Dr. Sadiah Boonstra on Monday, April 6, 2026. Hosted in Meeting Room A, 5th Floor of the UGM Graduate School Building, the event addressed the crucial topic of “History and Memory Making Through Arts and Performance.”
The session, which took place from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM WIB, served as the opening of an intensive series of classes scheduled over the next five days; the program includes two days at the UGM Graduate School and three days at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) UGM. In this class, Dr. Sadiah Boonstra, a Research Fellow at UGM and Honorary Fellow at Melbourne University, shared profound perspectives on the intersections of history, memory, and heritage.
The lecture was attended by students from both PSPSR and the Department of History. Although the class took place in the afternoon, the atmosphere remained conducive and dynamic. The discussion and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) sessions met with high enthusiasm from participants who actively exchanged ideas; the class ended with a Q & A session.
This visiting lecture also represents UGM’s concrete steps in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): An effort to provide deep and high-quality access to historical and cultural knowledge for the academic community and the public.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Strengthening synergy and collaboration between higher education institutions and international expert networks to enrich global insights. (NA)
