Crossing Borders Through Art: PSPSR Student Joins Artist Residency in Paris

From January to March 2025, Riza Pradito Yuwono, a Master’s student in the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Program at UGM, had the opportunity to participate in an artist residency program organized by Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, Institut Français Indonésie, and Cemeti Institute for Art and Society. Here, he shares his story:

“I arrived in Paris on the 2nd day of 2025, realizing I was still in transitional mode, a combination of year-end shift, hectic packing mode, and the remaining of last year’s jet lag. I was part of an artist in residence program which co-organize by Cité Internationale des Arts, Institut Françe Indonesia, and Cemeti Institute for Art and Society. read more

Exploring Art and Religion with Dr. G. Budi Subanar, S.J.: A Thoughtful Discussion and Iftar Gathering at PSPSR UGM

Amid the holy month of Ramadan, on March 22, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM, the Study Program of Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted an iftar gathering, preceded by a discussion titled Studies on Art and Religion. The event, held in the front corridor of the PSPSR study program office, brought together the entire PSPSR academic community. The keynote speaker, Dr. G. Budi Subanar, S.J. (Romo Banar), explored the intricate relationship between art and religion from both academic and cultural perspectives. read more

Goenawan Mohamad’s Solo Exhibition: “Mencari Lagi…” as a Reflection of the Creative Journey of an Artistic Figure

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, students from the Department of Performance Arts and Visual Arts Studies at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) visited Goenawan Mohamad’s 18th solo exhibition as part of a field study for the Art Criticism course taught by Prof. Drs. Martinus Dwi Marianto, MFA, Ph.D. The exhibition is held at the Srisasanti Gallery, Tirtodipuran Link Building B, Yogyakarta, from February 22 to April 20, 2025. It showcases 59 works of visual art, consisting of 19 paintings, 25 drawings, 11 gum oil prints, three etchings, and one installation object, most of which were created between 2017 and 2025. read more

Lono Simatupang Expands Interdisciplinary Perspectives in the Book Discussion “Vitality of Gringsing Weaving in Bali”

On February 12, 2025, the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized the launch and discussion of the book titled Vitality of Gringsing Weaving in Bali. The event took place at the auditorium of the UGM Graduate School and was attended by academics, practitioners, and students. In addition to the in-person gathering, the event was also streamed live on YouTube to reach a broader audience. The book was authored by Prof. Drg. Etty Indriati, Ph.D., a dentist and forensic expert with a profound interest in anthropology. As a keynote speaker, Dr. Gabriel Roosmargo Lono Lastoro Simatupang, MA, a lecturer in the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Program (PSPSR) at UGM, provided an in-depth review of the book. read more

Curriculum Workshop and Preparatory Meeting for the Even Semester of 2024/2025

On Friday, February 7, 2025, a curriculum workshop and preparatory meeting for the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year were successfully held online. This event aimed to introduce the latest curriculum to faculty members who will be involved in the teaching process for the upcoming semester. Additionally, it served as a discussion forum for lecturers to review curriculum changes and explore more effective teaching strategies.

The workshop began with a presentation by Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M. Hum., who provided an overview of the curriculum, including the new structure to be implemented in the upcoming semester. A discussion session was held after the presentation, focusing on course revisions and adjustments to the number of Semester Credit Units (SKS) for the Master’s (S2) program. Participants actively contributed feedback, suggestions, and responses regarding these changes, leading to a constructive discussion. read more

Understanding the LPDP Scholarship and Study Opportunities in PSPSR: A Discussion with Awardees

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, an online discussion on the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) scholarship was successfully held via the Zoom platform. The event was open to individuals interested in applying for, currently in the process of applying for, or already recipients of the LPDP scholarship. It also targeted prospective students interested in joining the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Program (PSPSR) through LPDP funding. During the session, participants could ask questions about the application process and study opportunities in PSPSR with LPDP funding. Through The Layers: Orientation for New Master’s Students in the Even Semester of 2024/2025

The Through the Layers program is an orientation event designed for new students of the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Program (PSPSR) in the even semester of 2024. This event introduces new students to the academic environment, curriculum structure, and various essential aspects of their studies. The orientation was held on February 4, 2025.

The event was opened by the head of the PSPSR program, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, M. Hum., who introduced the study program, its vision and mission, and an overview of the curriculum that students will undertake. Additionally, she explained various academic and non-academic activities available for students to support their knowledge and skill development throughout their studies. read more

The Harmony of Creativity: PSPSR Graduates’ Performance at UGM Graduate School Farewell Ceremony

Unlike most graduates who attend their commencement ceremony to enjoy various performances as part of their graduation celebration, students of the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Program (PSPSR) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) took the stage to showcase their artistic talents as a contribution to the graduation event on January 23, 2025. The PSPSR graduates presented various artistic performances reflecting their diverse artistic backgrounds, including music, vocal performances, dance, painting, and poetry recitation. All these artistic elements were harmoniously combined into a captivating performance. read more

PSPSR UGM Students Earn Master’s Degrees at the 2025 Graduate Program Graduation Ceremony

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again held its graduate program commencement ceremony on January 23, 2025. A total of 841 graduates, consisting of master’s and doctoral degree recipients from various faculties and study programs, participated in the graduation procession at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP). The event was followed by faculty-level ceremonies as a form of appreciation for the academic achievements of the graduates.

One of the study programs that participated in this graduation celebration was the Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies Program (PSPSR). 16 PSPSR students successfully earned their master’s degrees, bringing diverse artistic backgrounds in performing arts, and visual arts which are the core focus of their academic pursuits. This achievement reflects the program’s commitment to producing graduates with high academic and professional competencies following applicable educational standards. read more
