The UGM Graduate School officially welcomed new Master’s and Doctoral students for the 2023/2024 Even Semester and new students for the 2024/2025 Odd Semester in a ceremony held at the UGM Graduate School auditorium, which took place from Thursday, September 19, 2024, to Friday, September 20, 2024. The event was marked by the symbolic donning of the UGM alma mater jacket by Dr. Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, S. Hut., M. Agr., Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Collaboration, who presented the jacket to two new students representing the incoming class.
The two-day event commenced with a public lecture delivered by Hilmar Farid, B.A., M.A., Ph.D., Director General of Culture, moderated by Dr. G.R. Lono Lastoro Simatupang, M.A. In the lecture, themed “The Future of Cultural Administration and Cultural Policy in Indonesia,” Hilmar encouraged students to actively contribute by conducting research on culture to support the development of better Cultural Administration and Policy. Following this, students received explanations on UGM’s core values from Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., along with detailed overviews of Simaster, Elok, and academic guidelines for Master’s and Doctoral programs.
On the second day, students were introduced to the library system and digital resources, UGM’s Health Promoting University (HPU) initiative, Sexual Violence Prevention on Campus, Mind Management for Learners, and a final session introducing the Graduate Student Association. The orientation program for new students is in line with the goals highlighted in SDG no. 3 (good health and well-being), 4 (quality education), and 17 (partnerships for the goals). (AP)
