The general process of guidelines prospective student selection is done through file completion and verification by the  Directorate of Education and Learning (DPP) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (https://akademik.ugm.ac.id/). After being verified by the DPP, the results of the selection are submitted to the committee of the study program for further assessment on:

  1. Academic abilities from the achievement records of prospective students
  2. Completeness of requirements
  3. Interview to prospective students

The point 1 and 2 is the general process for prospective students from Graduate School and UGM, but the point 3 is the particular process for prospective students from Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies. The point 3 is occured because of evaluation of students–regarding the orientation, study period, motivation, and knowledge. According to the fact, Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies added the interview as a once of assessment. Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies needs the interview for knowing background, theses topic, the prestation, and purposes of prospective students. Those aspects are chosen because of the various education backgrounds of prospective students. Because of the interview, Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies can map out the orientations, goals, and good possibilities of prospective students. After the existence of an interview, Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies get the benefit, such as various interesting thesis topics, deep analyses, various perspectives, and interdisciplinary research methods.

Those points are a mechanism process of prospective students of Performing Arts and Visual Arts Studies. The selection results are then reported by the study program committee to the Dean of the Graduate School using the written form provided. The report includes the names of received and rejected applicants provided with the reasons. Selection of applicants in odd semesters is conducted from April to June, and the results have been received by the Dean of the Graduate School no later than the first week of July. While the selection in even semester is carried out from December to early January, and the results of the selection have been received by the Dean of the Graduate School no later than the first week of January.

The final decision regarding the acceptance and rejection of prospective students is determined by the Directorate of Education and Learning (DPP) at the suggestion of the Dean of the Graduate School. Acceptance and rejection are notified through the letter by the Vice-Rector for Students and Academic Affairs. The notification letter of acceptance also contains the instruction to re-register along with the registration requirements as a student. New students who have been accepted must immediately re-register at the beginning of August in the odd semester. In even semester, students should re-register at the beginning of February.
